Who May Be Eligible?

Economically disadvantaged Puerto Rican students who are currently enrolled in a high school at the Department of Education of Puerto Rico. Access the 2021 Poverty Guidelines of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Priority will be given to students enrolled in the following high schools:

Dr. Pila (Ponce, PR)

Luis Lloréns Torres (Juana Díaz, PR)

Have an overall GPA of 3.33 or higher

Be a candidate for graduation for the class of 2023

Have applied and been accepted into a higher educational institution in any of the following academic areas: Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, or Public Health.

Priority will be given to those students who are accepted in the following institutions:

The University of Puerto Rico (Río Piedras, Ciencias Médicas, Mayaguez)
-
State universities in the USA
-
Ivy League universities

Application Procedures:
The following application must be completed in its entirety. Any incomplete applications will be automatically disqualified.
1. Complete the application form (You MUST have a Google account to access the application form)
2. A copy of the latest official high school transcripts
3. Evidence of admission to an accredited higher ed institution
4. Two letters of recommendation from any of the following: teacher, counselor, principal.
5. An educational commitment essay (500 words max) describing your academic interests, future educational and professional goals, and how the MTS scholarship will help you in furthering your education.
6. Participate in a 30-min interview with the Martinez-Torres siblings
